Late-Night Moxibustion Rituals: How Pure Moxa Sticks Transformed My Health

Late Evening, After the Kids Are Asleep
Now that both children are finally asleep, I have a moment to jot down my experiences with moxibustion.

I feel fortunate that my first exposure to moxa sticks was through Jubutang’s products. One of my piano students always sat next to me at the keyboard, and I kept noticing a distinctive, soothing scent. After a few lessons I wondered, “Is she inhaling second-hand smoke from her dad?” I asked, “Does your father smoke?” She said no, then explained: “That’s the smell of my mom’s moxibustion.” Her mother, a university lecturer with a sunny personality, had started moxibustion at her husband’s urging after her second child. At first she found it tedious, but he joined her every session. Soon she felt more energetic and stuck with it—and still does.

Hearing her story, I thought I should try it too. After my second child, I often felt fatigued, my complexion was pale, and if I stayed up past eleven I’d hear ringing in my ears—more punctual than an alarm clock—and my knees felt cold. I asked how to buy moxa sticks. She said, “I’m an experienced moxibustion user, so I use the pricey sticks—¥9 each. You can start with cheaper ones.” She explained why her premium sticks were worth it and warned the price would rise by ¥5 each year. She even promised to gift me a box next lesson. Her vitality was convincing, and I’ve always trusted Traditional Chinese Medicine, so I had her send me the link—and began my journey with Jubutang’s moxa sticks.

After a body-constitution assessment, I watched my first live stream. Sister Ye analyzed my condition and gave tailored advice. I immediately ordered my first moxibustion device—a moxa bed. Ye commented, “Few customers order so fast!” I realized it was a leap of faith. I’d seen flashier shops, but here was something simple, sincere, and health-driven rather than sales-driven. I admired that. The investment paid off: once I believed, I benefited most.

When my moxa bed and sticks arrived, my husband installed them and I began using them. The aroma was gentle, the warmth comforting. After a few sessions on my back, I felt completely open and relaxed. Next I added a portable moxa stick, cupping moxa device, and moxibustion garment—treating legs and abdomen in rotation. I once bought a children’s moxa set elsewhere because my daughter loved the colorful pouch, but the difference was obvious even to me: Jubutang’s sticks outperformed them. Genuine three-year-aged moxa is rare; Jubutang’s truly aged sticks reveal their unique quality. Good products radiate their own value.

I noticed real results after about a month. One night before bed I said to my husband, “My ears haven’t rung at this hour lately.” He agreed. The change came faster than expected—so I kept going. My sleep quality steadily improved. All summer I nagged my husband to treat his “dharma bump” (fatty deposit at the base of the neck). He’s heat-sensitive and initially resisted, yet he dutifully carried the portable moxa at work every day—quite a sight! Even my mother-in-law felt the bump soften and shrink. When the children caught colds or anyone felt unwell, I’d consult Ye in the live chat. She gave honest, practical tips. I also purchased a vacuum cupping set, a wooden massage roller, and a blood-letting lancet to experiment. I feel like half a TCM practitioner now! In TCM we “prevent disease before it arises”—it’s profound wisdom.

I’ve played piano for thirty years. Music is the art of time; time has enriched my expression and taught me resilience. Though I progress slowly, when I commit, I persist—and reap the rewards. Moxibustion is the same: persistence enhances the body’s self-healing power. Since I began, I’ve only had two fevers. The first came with a cold—one night of moxibustion and I woke well. The second was a two-day fever and body ache; I applied moxa on my chest, did cupping moxibustion, treated my abdomen, and drank extra water. On the third morning the fever broke and only a mild cough remained. For my children, at the first sniffle or cough I rub their abdomens, apply moxa on Back-shu and Lung-shu points, then warm their lower belly. We haven’t used cold medicine in ages. My in-laws now soak their feet nightly in moxa herbal baths and fall asleep easily.

Going forward, with Jubutang’s moxibustion by my side, I feel confident. I aim to gradually improve my varicose veins and cold knees, and continue using moxibustion to care for my family.
