My aunt is a huge fan of moxibustion. She does it every single day, filling her home with a constant haze of mugwort smoke. I used to roll my eyes at it. But one experience completely changed how I saw things.
In 2016, I got married. For some reason, I just couldn’t get pregnant. After several hospital visits, the diagnosis came: Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). The doctor told me bluntly—if I didn’t get treated, pregnancy would be extremely difficult. And even with treatment, there were no guarantees. My husband is the only child in his family, and my mother-in-law had been pushing for an early marriage and a baby. The thought of not being able to conceive terrified me.
I nervously confided in my aunt. She comforted me and then pulled out case after case of women who had successfully used moxibustion to treat infertility. She encouraged me to combine hospital treatment with regular moxibustion. “It’ll warm your uterus,” she said, “and make it easier for life to take root.” She gave me two boxes of Chuye moxa sticks and urged me to stick with it.
That very night, I began. As I applied moxibustion to the Baliao points on my lower back, I felt a deep heat radiating from my back to my lower abdomen. My entire belly felt warm and soothed. When I moved to the Sanyinjiao points on my legs, my feet warmed up too. Some say it’s not ideal to use moxa at night, but for working people like us, evenings are the only time we have. Fortunately, Jubutang’s moxa sticks are well-aged and pure, so even nighttime sessions felt amazing.
I kept it up. While I continued with medical treatments, I also studied more about moxibustion and stuck to my routine. Gradually, I lost weight, and all my health indicators began to improve. After a year and a half of hospital care and consistent moxibustion, I got pregnant. I carried to full term and gave birth to a healthy baby boy. He’s bright, lively, and the joy of our entire family. I’m forever grateful to moxibustion—it gave me back a normal life.
My mother-in-law has high blood pressure and often suffered from headaches. I followed Jubutang’s advice, gave her Sanqi (Panax notoginseng) powder daily, combed along her liver meridian, and regularly did moxa on Baihui, Dazhui, Ganshu, and Sanyinjiao. She often ties a portable moxa canister to the top of her head and goes about her housework while getting her therapy. Moxibustion became her lifesaver.
She takes care of the baby all by herself, cooks for us every day, and even helps out with my grandfather, who has mobility issues from a stroke. She’s like a superwoman. When we tell her she’s doing too much, she just smiles and says, “I don’t feel tired—I’ve got moxibustion!”
My husband drives for a living, often spending 5 or 6 hours behind the wheel at a stretch. He developed chronic lumbar strain—a common occupational hazard. On his days off, he straps on the six-pack moxa belt. Like my aunt taught him, he applies moxa wherever it hurts.
Weekends have become our family’s “big moxa day.” We take turns lying on the moxibustion bed for full-body sessions. That bed runs warm from morning till night, and each of us gets two hours on it. It’s used to the max. Every time I get off that bed, I feel like a computer that’s just been rebooted—refreshed and full of energy.
Jubutang has come up with so many innovative tools lately. They make moxibustion easier and more efficient, and help save on moxa sticks too. You can tell they truly care about people like us. I hope they keep creating better tools and products—and that all of us can stay strong, healthy, and youthful for years to come.
