Since my son’s constitution has always been weak, he used to come down with high fevers and colds every couple of months. I think all the antibiotics and injections only made him worse. Each time he ran a fever, the doctors told us his tonsils were inflamed and enlarged—and he also had chronic sinusitis. We learned to avoid giving him anything that might “heat” his body.
At the end of 2019 he developed a cough that lasted for months. We tried countless doctors without success. During the lockdown, we still had over a dozen boxes of moxa sticks at home, so I began moxibusting him every day. From the start of the winter holiday until school finally reopened, I never missed a day. To this day, whenever there’s a break, I carve out time for his treatment. Since then his cough has disappeared, his sinuses feel clear again, and he can even tolerate “warming” foods.
So far, he’s only had two low‑grade fevers—and each time I simply used moxibustion under the guidance of my friend at Jubu Tang to bring the fever down. He also had two bouts of lower‑left abdominal pain—probably lymph node swelling—and again moxibustion resolved it. Even my husband’s bumps and bruises have healed with the same method.
Last year my son developed tiny blisters on his hands. I heated water with soot‑free moxa sachets and let him soak his hands every day; within a week they cleared up. This year another patch appeared, and he asked me, “Mom, can you boil some moxa water for my hands again?” Now whenever he feels unwell he says, “Mom, let’s do moxibustion.” Looking back, I regret that I didn’t start these treatments sooner for his fevers and colds.
As for myself, I have a qi‑stagnation constitution. Before 2020 I often felt stomach discomfort; an endoscopy revealed gastric erosion. Whenever I was unhappy, I literally felt the qi reverse in my throat, with acid reflux, bloating, and no appetite. The prescribed antacids only made me feel worse, so I stopped taking them.
In July 2019, a sudden family crisis nearly shattered me. One evening in the shower my chest hurt so badly I had it checked; I was told it was hyperplasia and given medication that did nothing. It dawned on me that my stomach and chest symptoms all stemmed from emotional distress, so I focused on regulating my mood.
In early 2021 I hit the lowest point of my life, teetering on the edge of collapse for months. I couldn’t sleep; I’d wake up worrying, tense all day, running to the bathroom repeatedly, and I lost a lot of weight. I knew I couldn’t go on like that. I reached out again to my friend at Jubu Tang, and she recommended cupping on the Qimen and Sanyinjiao points—either leave the cups on while you sleep or combine cupping with moxibustion. This would help me sleep better and restore my yang energy.
That night I cupped my Sanyinjiao and Qimen points before bed, and by morning huge blisters had formed. I popped them and then alternated daily between moxibustion and cupping. Over nearly a month I drained so much fluid and a few streaks of blood—but most importantly, my sleep returned and I felt so much lighter.
Because I couldn’t always catch the live streams, I devoured her short videos and articles instead. They became my daily nourishment. Now whenever I moxibustion myself, I always treat the Juili, Sanyinjiao, Taichong, Tanzhong, and Qimen points to soothe my liver qi. I also have chronic throat irritation, so I include Tiantu each time—and once even drained a blister there. Spicy foods used to set my throat on fire; now I don’t worry.
I compared my health before and after 2020: whenever I had spare time during the pandemic, I committed to daily moxibustion. Even at my worst in 2021, I no longer suffered stomach pain, chest tightness, or throat discomfort the way I used to. Today I face life with calm and clarity—and that, more than anything, is the power of moxibustion.
On weekends my son and I never skip our treatments: if we do, something just feels missing. Moxibustion gives us peace of mind and the sense that home is the safest place.
Over the recent National Day holiday I brought extra moxa sticks to my parents. They both complained of aching legs, so I hope they’ll stick with their treatments and say goodbye to pain.
I feel truly lucky to have discovered such a wonderful moxa product, and I’m deeply grateful to my friend at Jubu Tang. She has given us not only moxibustion itself but also the spiritual strength and health that come with it.
